Purchase & Transportation Agreement
Please read this section carefully. It outlines the purchase and placement process in detail and establishes expectations from the outset. This allows conversations to focus on selecting the right dog for your program or family, rather than reviewing information already provided in writing.
JBK dogs are placed selectively. Submission of an application does not constitute approval, and not all applicants are accepted for placement.

Application Review Notice
As part of the screening process, website activity may be reviewed to confirm whether required pages were visited before application submission and interview consideration. Failure to complete that review may delay or prevent advancement in the buyer approval process. Many buyers who find JBK through RedNote / Xiaohongshu are purchasing from out of state and are ready to move efficiently through the process. This page outlines the purchase terms, placement expectations, and transportation process in one place.

Puppy Selection & Placement Order
Puppy placement is determined in the following order:
-
Breeder/Owner first choice
-
Conformation show prospects
-
Performance prospects
-
Companion placements
Show prospects are generally evaluated and selected at 7–8 weeks of age. Once show selections are complete, remaining puppies are considered for performance and companion homes.
Final placement order is based on approved applications with an immediate deposit received.
If an application is approved but a deposit is not received within the specified time frame, the next approved applicant who submits a deposit will move ahead in placement order.

Appointment, Visitation, and Deposit Policy
All in-person visits are by appointment only and require a $250 non-refundable appointment fee, paid in advance by Zelle, before the appointment will be scheduled. This fee is for the reserved visit time and consultation only and is not applied toward the purchase price.
The earliest puppy visitation age is six weeks old. This policy is in place to protect the mother, reduce unnecessary stress on the litter, and limit outside exposure during early development.

Please note that most puppies receive deposits before they are even born or shortly after birth. Puppies are generally selected in order of approved application and deposit received, so availability may be limited by the time an in-person visit is scheduled.
If, during the appointment, a visitor decides to move forward with an available puppy, an additional $250 deposit is required that same day to hold the puppy. If no puppy is selected and no deposit is placed, the original $250 appointment fee is forfeited and will not be refunded, transferred, or credited for any reason.
JBK does not offer casual puppy visits, browsing visits, or entertainment visits. In-person appointments are reserved for serious buyers only.

Deposits & Timing
All deposits are non-refundable.
Puppies typically go to their new homes between 8–10 weeks of age and never before 8 weeks
.
Final Notes on Selection
Receiving the “last pick” puppy does not indicate lower quality. Placement order reflects individual preference, not merit. Preferences vary widely and may include factors such as size, markings, or overall appearance.
Every puppy placed by JBK is evaluated carefully and held to the same standard.

Optional Buyer-Requested Pre-Purchase Evaluation
JBK does not require pre-purchase veterinary examinations as a routine part of placement. However, a buyer may request an optional pre-purchase evaluation at the buyer’s discretion, particularly for dogs being considered for performance, competition, or breeding purposes.

Any such evaluation must be requested and coordinated in advance. The cost of the veterinary examination, imaging, or other testing is paid directly by the buyer to the attending veterinarian. In addition, JBK charges a separate handling and scheduling fee for arranging the appointment, transporting the dog, and presenting the dog for that evaluation.

Because this type of appointment requires advance scheduling, time away from daily operations, and coordination on JBK’s part, the handling and scheduling fee must be paid in advance and is non-refundable once the appointment is set.

The scope of the examination is determined by the buyer and the attending veterinarian. For orthopedic review, OFA does accept hip radiographs on young dogs for preliminary evaluation, including dogs 4 months through 23 months of age. That type of reading is a current preliminary assessment only and is not the same as final OFA certification. Final OFA hip certification is issued at 24 months of age or older. PennHIP is a separate method of hip evaluation and can be performed earlier, beginning at 16 weeks of age.
JBK does not guarantee the outcome of any veterinary opinion, screening, imaging result, future performance ability, breeding outcome, or long-term soundness.

If a buyer wishes to pursue an optional pre-purchase evaluation, that request must be discussed and approved in advance so scheduling and logistics can be arranged appropriately.

Retired Show Dogs & Show Prospects
Occasionally, we place retired show dogs or show prospects that were held back for our program but did not meet 100% of our competitive goals. Pricing begins at $1,500 and up, depending on the individual dog.
In some cases, available dogs may be returns from previous owners. These dogs are not “problem dogs.” Each situation is unique, and challenges most often stem from unmet training, structure, or lifestyle expectations rather than from the dog itself. Every dog is an individual, with its own strengths, personality, and learning style. There is no such thing as a perfect dog—only a dog whose needs are properly understood and met.
Whether acquiring a puppy or an adult dog, the responsibility is the same. Dogs require clear guidance, consistency, rules, and boundaries to thrive. They want to learn, they want direction, and they want to please. A well-trained dog is not controlled—it is fulfilled. What you put into your dog, consistently and thoughtfully, is what you will get back.

Placement Philosophy
Our dogs are placed selectively and intentionally. We do not place dogs into just any home. Each dog deserves an environment where it can succeed mentally, physically, and emotionally. We are always transparent about any individual quirks, tendencies, or training considerations before placement.
We strongly encourage prospective owners to thoroughly educate themselves about Border Collies and Smooth Fox Terriers prior to applying. These are intelligent, driven working breeds that require active engagement and commitment. This website contains extensive educational information to help you determine whether one of our dogs is the right fit for your lifestyle.
We value our time and yours and prioritize working with applicants who are prepared to make a lifelong commitment.

Deposits, Applications & Transport
If a sale is canceled for any reason, the $500 deposit is forfeited.
To proceed, please visit the Application Page and complete the application in full. Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule a telephone interview.
Limited ground transportation may occasionally be available; this is offered on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed.
If your dog will be flying to you
All air transportation is coordinated by JBK. Flight method, carrier selection, routing, timing, and release logistics are determined based on the dog’s age, size, developmental stage, weather conditions, and overall welfare at the time of transport. Buyer circumstances and preferences may be considered when feasible; however, final decisions regarding air travel are made by JBK to ensure the dog’s safety, continuity of care, and compliance with airline and transport requirements. Veterinary visits related to flight clearance are scheduled only when required for air transport. Buyers will be informed once arrangements are finalized. Any changes requested after transportation has been coordinated and confirmed will result in an additional $500 rescheduling fee. Buyers are expected to confirm availability and scheduling in advance.

Veterinary Appointments
Veterinary clinics are often booked one to two weeks in advance. If timing is critical, I may arrange care through an alternate veterinary clinic other than my primary veterinarian (established since 1994). In such cases, an additional $200 fee will apply to establish services with a new clinic. This fee will be added to your total purchase price.
