A simple step-by-step guide for first-time buyers

Purchasing a puppy should be straightforward when the process is understood from the beginning. This page is designed to give first-time buyers a clear overview of how the JBK process works. It is not a substitute for the full website policies. All buyers are still required to review the Purchase and Transportation pages in full before moving forward.

A — Review the Website

Begin by reviewing the website carefully. The Purchase and Transportation pages explain the program structure, buyer expectations, placement terms, and available transportation methods. Most common questions are already answered there.

B — Follow Instructions First

Buyers are expected to follow instructions and review the required pages before requesting additional time. JBK does not schedule phone calls with applicants who have not first completed the required steps. This is intentional. When someone purchases a dog from JBK, they are not only purchasing a puppy, but also gaining access to breeder support, guidance, and communication over the life of that dog. Time is therefore allocated carefully and reserved for serious, prepared buyers and for existing customers who may need help along the way.

C — Submit an Application

After reviewing the required pages, complete the application fully and honestly. Submission of an application does not guarantee approval, placement, or puppy availability.

D — Wait for Review and Approval

Applications are reviewed carefully to determine whether the home, expectations, and overall fit are appropriate for the program. JBK places puppies selectively and does not operate on a first-message, first-inquiry, or first-call basis. If more than 48 hours have passed and you have not received a response, please resubmit your application. An application may have been missed, or an incomplete submission may have been filtered into spam and never received.

E — Reserve by Deposit

Approved buyers may move forward with a deposit when a suitable puppy or planned litter is available. Puppy selection is based on approved placement and deposit order, not casual inquiry. Deposits are the only thing that will hold a puppy. Without a deposit, a puppy is not considered reserved.

F — Review the Purchase Terms

Before placement is finalized, buyers are expected to review and understand the purchase terms, payment requirements, and program expectations outlined on the website. Buyers should not move forward unless they are comfortable with those terms.

G — Choose Transportation

Transportation is arranged at the buyer’s expense. The best option depends on distance, timing, location, and budget. Different transportation methods have different costs, scheduling requirements, and limitations. Buyers are responsible for choosing the transportation option that best fits their situation after reviewing the Transportation page. If a buyer chooses to have a puppy flown, JBK personally handles the flight arrangements. American Airlines PetSafe Priority Cargo is used, and the airport of departure is DFW.

H — Prepare for Pickup or Delivery

Once placement is confirmed, final arrangements are made for pickup or transportation. Buyers should be prepared in advance with timing, travel plans, supplies, and a realistic understanding of the transition into the home. A basic supply list is also available on the JBK Education Center page to help buyers prepare in advance with recommended puppy items before pickup or delivery.

I — Bring Your Puppy Home

The goal is a clear, organized process that places each puppy thoughtfully and responsibly. Buyers who review the website first and follow instructions from the beginning generally move through the process much more smoothly.
